Invitations…trickling out

Paper invitations have finally started to go out…..and you wouldn’t imagine what a psychological relief it is. Some friends in the invitation business were so kind to help us with them…and I’m tremendously happy with the way they turned out. Of course, they are vellumy and ribbony as a wedding invitation should be! But all the extra gee-gaws added more postage at the end of day as they needed to be “hand-cancelled” (postmarked) so as not to get them envelopes caught in the machine.

They do require a lot of assembly so we are working hard as we can at them! But we were able to mail a batch on Feb 14, which was very important to me. :) Folks, if you receive your invitation, please let us know ASAP if you will be able to make it!!

Vendors, etc

They say that planning a wedding is hard but you never realize what it’s like until you start planning one. Fortunately for us, its been quite a pleasurable experience as much of it has involved trips to wine country, investigating places and services. There are so many people and companies involved in the wedding industry, and I’ve realized that positive word of mouth really does count for something as without it, I never would have been able to narrow down the hundreds of vendors which are available. There is truly a mass of options and information out there, whether it be online, or through good old fashioned media, which allows for a couples to put a personal stamp on what at it’s core is an exchange of vows simlar to those that have been exchanged for hundreds of years. Luckily, to navigate through the data jungle, we have lots of friends who have either gotten married, or are affiliated with the industry in some way–our florist was a place one of my bridesmaids used to work during college, DJ is a rec of another friend. Of course, many of the vendors are associated with the Sonoma Mission Inn as well, as we figured it would be a good idea to go with vendors who are familiar with the terrain.

One thing I will say is that each and every one of the people we’ve come across in this process has been such a professional. You get the feeling that they’ve all been through the process before (as they all have), which is comforting as well as daunting when its your first time!

After some fits and starts, we have finally finished a Version 1.0 of the website. Browse around the various pages and let us know what you think!

A few items to highlight:

Airport for Out of Towners - The best airports to fly into are the San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland (OAK) airports.
Lodging - If you plan to stay in the Sonoma area, be sure to book your lodging soon. Our wedding coincides with the Sonoma Jazz Festival, and so rooms will go fast.
Check our engagement photos! We had a special afternoon session in Sonoma with our wedding photographer, Ramon Estrada. He did a great job — I especially like the ones in the vineyard.
